Real places in Edinburgh

Chosen by a person, not a crawler.

11 real places to practise in and around Edinburgh live in the app's directory — looked at and written by hand, sorted by distance, never by who paid. A few of them:

  • Edinburgh Iyengar Yoga Centre

The first Iyengar centre in Scotland, teaching on Bruntsfield Place for over forty years and run as a community benefit society owned by its members. Around three hundred students a week, six days a week.

  • Ashtanga Yoga Edinburgh

A Mysore room behind Calton Hill led by authorised teacher Emma Isokivi, with founder Karen Kirkness on the senior team. Morning and evening self-practice, led primary and beginners' classes, plus the wider Hillside Collective timetable.

  • The Yoga Room

A Forth Street studio with roots in Ashtanga, founded by a yoga therapist who was once Scotland's only authorised teacher in the method. Terms run twelve weeks, in the room and on Zoom on one subscription.

  • Yoga Now

An Iyengar studio on the fourth floor of St Margaret's House, the Edinburgh Palette arts building, with a sprung floor and infrared heating. Beginners through level two, plus gentle and therapeutic classes.

  • Tidal Yoga

A Leith Walk studio founded by Alex Black, teaching vinyasa, hatha, Ashtanga, yin and restorative alongside mat Pilates and yoga nidra. The teaching is trauma-informed, with beginners' and pregnancy classes on the timetable.

  • Yoga's Got Hot

A purpose-built heated studio on Learmonth Avenue, running classes between 22 and 32 degrees from dynamic flow through to complete relaxation, with a prenatal class on the schedule. Mats and towels are provided.

  • Kagyu Samye Dzong Edinburgh

The Leith branch of Samye Ling, the Tibetan monastery founded at Eskdalemuir in 1967. Guided meditation runs several times a week alongside qigong, study groups and teachings from visiting lamas, given on donation.

  • Kadampa Meditation Centre Edinburgh

A New Kadampa centre on Leith Walk with a purpose-built meditation hall, free fifteen-minute lunchtime sits and evening classes. It also runs weekend retreats and satellite classes in Falkirk, Dundee and Melrose.

Four quiet surfaces

One place. Nothing shouting for your attention.

No endless feed, no leaderboard, no algorithm deciding who you see. Just four calm ways to be present.

  1. 01

    Today

    The front door.

A calm daily view of what's here now — today's sit, mindful places near you, a few recent voices. You open it, you breathe, you close it.

  2. 02

    Events

    The Sit. Free

Leaderless meditation and breathwork — everyone joins at the same minute and sits together, wherever they are. A recorded voice cues the breath, then silence. No host, no teacher, no camera.

  3. 03

    Spaces

    Real places near you.

A directory of real mindful places — yoga, meditation, and breathwork studios — nearest first. Run one? Claim or add your place in a couple of taps.

  4. 04

    Voices

    A quiet noticeboard.

A calm, chronological feed — share a few words, a photo, or a short video. No follower counts, no trending, never ranked, never an algorithm.

What we will never do

  • No ads. Ever.
  • No subscriptions.
  • No algorithm choosing who you see.
  • No metrics shouting for your attention.

A new member can find something that matters here — without ever joining a single event.
